History of Reflexology
Reflexology dates back to around 2,300BC in Egypt and China. Paintings discovered in an Egyptian Tomb, indicate that foot massage was performed as long ago as that.
Dr William Fitzgerald, who was a Ear Nose and Throat Specialist, discovered that by placing tight bands on a certain area, anaethetised a corresponding area. This became known as Zone Therapy.
Eunice Ingham developed Reflexology as it is known today and was brought to the UK in 1966 by Doreen Bailey.
Reflexology works on the reflex points and the treatment is usually done on the feet but can also be done on the hands.
Reflex areas on the feet correspond to parts of the body forming a map of the body in the feet, the right side corresponds to the right side of the body and the left side corresponding with the left side of the body.
The Reflexologists is able to treat the whole body by working the reflex points on the feet. By working the feet in this way it is thought that energy channels that may have become blocked are freed and this allows energy to flow freely again. This treatment is found to be very beneficial in very many ways - encouraging the body to heal itself.
